Labradorite Bracelet c/o $48 | Bar Druzy Necklace c/o $92
Breast Cancer Awareness Month will be upon us in just a few short days, and so the timing feels no less than perfect to introduce to you an incredible jewelry designer and breast cancer survivor, Kaliada. Surely many if not every one of you has been touched by this disease and I am no exception to that. My mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law have all fought or continue to fight this tough battle (and a BIG I love you to the two of those three women who will be reading this). And so what could make a better gift for the warrior or survivor in your life than something beautiful made by a woman who beat cancer and followed her dream to share her lovely designs with the world.
So, first I will tell you how I styled a few of Kally’s darling pieces, then you will get to read an exclusive Q&A with her. Finally, we will hook you up with an amazing shop code that will get GWB readers a free gift AND a chance to pay it forward.
STYLING: I recently ordered this faux fur scarf for fall from one of my favorite British stores, Joules and it is quite a steal on sale for $17. I layered it over a tried and true gray silk shirt (like this one, and this one). Together these two pull out the natural shades of the bar druzy necklace. And the Labradorite Bracelet made fast friends with Kate (similar) and Ann (now on super sale), two of my go-to arm buddies. I paired this stack with more easy neutrals: coach loafers (like these), khaki ankle pants (like these, or these) and a chevron top (like this one).
Q&A with Kally
Which of your pieces make the best go-to gifts? We see a high trend on our long chain Druzy and Agate necklaces.
What has inspired you in your fall 2015 designs? Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I usually get inspired by women in general. Each of my designs have a story behind in which women get identified with. This fall 2015 is all about bringing the natural beauty of the country to the city for the woman who loves a boho chic look; long chain necklaces (to wear alone or in layers), precious gems stretch bracelets in charming earth colors. I design for the confident, classy, grateful, free spirited woman, so this Fall collection is for that classy down to earth woman that wants to feel and look casually glamorous in jewelry that complements any look, be it in a cozy sweater, or dressing in layers.
With so many worthy philanthropies to choose from, why does your company choose to support FLASE? My first nephew, 18 yrs. now, is a Down Syndrome child who lives in New Jersey. FLASE is the Parent-Teacher Organization for all Fair Lawn Schools in New Jersey. They address issues pertaining Special Ed Self-Contained Classes, Speech, Special Occupational, and Physical therapy. They work hard in raising money to help support their special needs classroom with resources much needed for a better and specialized education. This cause, as well as the breast cancer one, is very personal. However, KALIADA is more than happy to contribute to any other cause that means a lot to our customers. If any of our customers is interested in designating a portion of their purchase to any of their charities all they have to do is send us an email at email@example.com and we will take it from there.
What is next for Kaliada? We see Kaliada as to the go to boutique for one of a kind handcrafted women accessories, from jewelry to handbags, and everything else in between. We are in the works to expand our collection to be able to offer in the future other types accessories, in addition to our jewelry designs. The same one of a kind materials we use with our jewelry, as well as our concept/essence (designs for the classy, confident, charming down to earth woman), will be reflected on all of the new lines of accessories that we’ll develop. More importantly, is our commitment to the community in making a positive impact. From a community engagement perspective, our mission, as we grow, is to contribute more in supporting breast cancer patients. We are considering to establish a full breast cancer giving back program. It will include support on many areas impacted in the life of a breast cancer patient, eg; food/nutrition and donation, which we currently do.
Can you offer a special message to any GWB readers affected by breast cancer? One of many messages I would like to share will be to view cancer as a blessing rather than as something bad or a life sentence. Why? because we only learn to grow, appreciate life, and love ourselves when bad things happen to us. If it wouldn’t be because of the cancer I would have never be able to get to know myself, love myself like I do now, and would have never be able to do a full spiritual analysis on me, or discovered my passion for jewelry; but most importantly, I would have never be able to learn to enjoy the little things that do matter in life and that we tend to take for granted. I learned through that bad experience that only our current moments are what’s real. We do not know if we will be around tomorrow, so today is what matters. Let’s live each day as if it is the last day of our life. Another very important message I would like to share with cancer patients is that our minds control our bodies, optimism and faith are the most important tools to fight the disease. I believe in God, so to me believing with mind, heart and soul that God is in control was, and still is very important. It is said that cancer is a disease of the mind. I would say positive thoughts and faith are the keys to victory.
